Our Skills
The construction side of Filios Companies has run the gamut, from entry-level homes to multi-family projects in Las Vegas during the 1990’s; to strip malls, office buildings and build-to-suit buildings since early 2000. Their footprint has expanded throughout the country over time, building on the father-son team’s combined experience of nearly seven decades in the field. The focus in recent years has been on commercial projects, but their extensive experience in residential construction is widely valued, including recent apartment projects in North Dakota and Kansas City.
Our Team
In 1955 a family of eight immigrants arrived to Lowell, Mass. from Kalamata, Greece. A then 18 year old and oldest of six siblings, George Filios went to work in a textile mill. By the time he was 22, he ventured cross country to Antioch, California where he hoped to gain opportunities in a booming housing market. After working for many years in the construction industry, in 1972 George took a job at A.G. Spanos Corporation where he later rose to the position of Executive Vice President and oversaw the building of more than 70,000 apartments nationwide during his 40 years with the company.
He and his wife, Nitsa Filios, had a son named Spiros, who went on to found Filios Construction in 1992. Nitsa, meanwhile, went into real estate, working for national firms for more than a decade before forming her own realty firm, Filios Realty LLC in 1999. When George retired from A.G. Spanos Corp. in 2005, the three joined together and formed the backbone of what is today a suite of companies that draws on the strength of family bonds and nearly a century’s worth of experience.
